1. The Hub is still coming!
On July 24th, news broke that Metrolinx reneged on its promise to donate land to support the creation of the Jane Finch Community Hub.
The Toronto Star reported that Metrolinx intended to sell the land for profit instead. Within days, the Jane Finch community mobilized to let Metrolinx and the Ontario government know that this was unacceptable.
After significant outcry from a wide range of community leaders and politicians, as well as a public demonstration attended by dozens of residents, Metrolinx has reversed its decision, verbally recommitting to donate the land to the community.
2. The Hub will be built after the Finch West LRT station is completed in 2023.
Since the Community Hub will be located on land that Metrolinx will be using as a Maintenance and Storage Facility for the LRT finch line, the actual construction of the Hub cannot take place until after 2023.
3. Community Organizers want to hear from you!
Jane and finch Community leaders have been working on this project with the City of Toronto for over 8 years. During this time and with the support of many other organizations, the Community Action Planning Group has conducted interviews, information sessions, surveys, and meetings with neighbourhood residents to learn what facilities this community hub should provide. So far, 1,484 people have participated to share their ideas.
If you’re interested in getting involved, and would like to share what you would like to see in your Jane Finch Community Hub please contact: Troylbudhu@gmail.com
4. The Jane Finch hub will provide a variety of spaces and community programs.
So far the following priorities have been identified:
Dance studio
Recording studio
Indoor swimming pool
Community kitchen
Mental health Services
Youth lounge
Computer Lab
“The land secured for the hub and other potential uses measures 32 metres wide by 274 metres long. Located near Yorkgate Mall and the intersection of Jane Street and Finch Avenue, the site will be accessible by the 35/935 Jane and 36 Finch bus routes.

5. We will continue to follow this story as it develops.
We need to continue to hold Metrolinx accountable to make sure that it delivers on its promise.
When Metrolinx commits to providing this hub in writing, we will let you know!
