Today, on Saturday, February 10th, ACORN Canada will be holding demonstrations in cities nationwide outside some of the biggest grocery chains to stop price gouging and demand fair food prices. ACORN will be delivering a letter of demand to the MPs and CEOs of grocery chains.
According to Food Bank Canada’s 2023 Hunger Count, there were 2 million food bank visits in Canada in 2023, up 78.5% since March 2019.
Food retail profits have doubled since the start of COVID, according to economist Jim Stanford.
To counter this food inflation, Canadians are buying lower quality and quantity of food items. With more than 2,500 locations, Loblaw alone has more than 20 grocery and food brands under its banner.
