transformative impact of such programs, highlighting the importance of diversity and inclusion in the film industry.
In her own words, Dayana reflects on her journey with the Diversity of Voices program and its pivotal role in her career: "When I started working on this project and attending networking events, I learned so much about applying for funding, which was crucial because we didn't have enough money. I got into the Diversity of Voices program at Banff through these events. A fantastic producer who wants others to grow helped me immensely with the application process, and I was among the hundreds selected for the program. Diversity of Voices helped me attend Banff, where I was one of the 25 participants who connected with many decision-makers. This connection allowed me to meet with representatives from Netflix, including a private session. Diversity of Voices was crucial for me to have had these opportunities. For instance, I met people from Netflix and their directors, which was invaluable. Overall, being with the right people to connect with these opportunities is essential. I highly recommend participating in such programs."
"Ray of Hope" is more than just a film; it's a testament to resilience and the power of advocacy. Centred around Rathika Sitsabaiesan, a former Canadian Member of Parliament who fled the Sri Lankan civil war, the documentary delves into her traumatic experiences and unwavering commitment to championing the voices of the oppressed. Fleeing with her Tamil family during her formative years, Rathika's journey is intertwined with the collective trauma of her community. The anguish and tales of the conflict shaped her identity and ignited a genuine sense of advocacy.
Rathika's story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Despite her past traumas, she remains steadfast in her commitment to effecting positive change and shedding light on the plight of those silenced by conflict and oppression.
