In March 2020, York University closed its doors for in-person learning and students had no choice but to shift to remote learning. It was an adjustment for all, and we had to overcome obstacles created by remote learning.
However, as of September 2021, York University will be opening its doors for on-campus learning and students will now be able to return to their classrooms.
As a YorkU student, I had to adapt to a new form of learning that has not been easy. I’ve struggled not only with the lack of one-on-one interaction but also with poor Wi-Fi connection and finding a place in my home dedicated to school.
I could not be happier to return to lectures and tutorials in person. The lack of in-person interaction over the last year has made me realize how valuable and important it is to interact with others on a daily basis. I am now able to communicate with my peers, participate in extracurricular activities, and build relationships with my TA’s and Professors.
York University has implemented many safety measures to ensure that we are safe when returning to on-campus learning. They have outlined Health and Safety Guidelines for Returning to Campus during the COVID-19 Protocol on their website. It includes frequent cleaning and handwashing; face masks and coverings being worn; restrictions on classroom capacities. Anyone attending campus will be asked to complete a health screening before arriving to ensure they are safe.
I am extremely excited to go back to school and have in-person learning and interactions once again. It is something I took for granted every day and didn’t realize how valuable it is especially for my mental health until it was taken away. With the safety measures implemented by YorkU, I feel safe returning to campus, and I will follow the health and safety guidelines to ensure I keep everyone safe.
