With the celebration of Women’s History Month happening in October, many great pioneers to remember have paved the way for us all. Women’s History Month is a time to reflect on women’s outstanding contributions to Canadian society.
In the times of COVID-19, Women’s History Month focuses on the great contributions made by women as powerful agents within our Canadian Society. The contribution of the health care providers, nurses, physicians, scientists, teachers, and members of our Canadian Armed Forces shows how women will continue to impact the future leaders of tomorrow.
The accomplishments of these pioneers exemplify how our communities have grown stronger, despite the difficult times we are in. Some of these pioneers, like the Honourable Rosalie Silberman Abella, have truly made an impact in Canada. As the first immigrant woman to sit on the Supreme Court of Canada, Justice Abella has created groundbreaking decisions within our Canadian society and inspired others to focus on judicial activism and equality rights.
The pandemic’s impact inspirations like Maryse Harvey, the Executive Director of Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research. Harvey’s work includes advocacy, public affairs, governmental decision-making and many more initiatives that illustrate the importance of having women leaders.
These stories give us a fresh perspective for all the young female teens in Downsview to reach for new heights.
Federal leaders have made moving statements discussing the government’s commitment to providing women who care for their children more accessible child care.
These plans will allow women to quickly jump back into the workforce while also addressing the systemic and gendered barriers women face in the economic sector.
